The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host an information fair at the Family Place in base housing Oct. 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to build awareness on many programs and services offered at Seymour Johnson.

Barry Williams, producer and actor famous for his role as Greg Brady on "The Brady Bunch" television series, will make an appearance to sing the national anthem and make an opening statement.

"This event is an effort to get information out to people we wouldn't normally get through our doors," said Marilyn Roseborough, the center's director. "With 'Taking it to the Streets,' my idea was to get the staff out of their comfort zone and actually take it back to the people who need the information that we have."

The event essentially boils down to reaching out to families and community members, said Richard Lambert, a Community Readiness Consultant at the center.

Though providing information to families is a key objective, all Team Seymour members will be able to find information at the event.

"We're also trying to make sure that in focusing on the families we don't forget the single Airmen," Mrs. Roseborough said. "We're going to have information out there for them as well."

Having the event at the Family Place seemed like a good call, said Lee Wright, a Community Readiness Consultant at the center. "The goal of the Family Place is to provide a meeting place where families can gather in a more comfortable, relaxed atmosphere."

The fair will have a party atmosphere with music, carnival-style games, an inflatable castle and plenty of hot dogs. The Family Place, which is located at 705 Chandler Ave., also has a playground that can accommodate special-needs children.

"We have a lot of great programs to offer, we just want to see more people using them," Mr. Lambert said.

In case of inclement weather, the fair will be moved to the community center and proceed as planned.
