Team Seymour builds community support Published Sept. 6, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Greg C. Biondo 4th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Members of Team Seymour will participate in a mini-blitz build sponsored by the United Way of Wayne County in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro on September 15. During the mini-blitz, two houses will be built from the ground up in one week. One house will be in Goldsboro and the other in Mt. Olive. The projects are part of the annual Days of Caring, a week long, county-wide volunteering program, held September 14-22. The event is another opportunity for Team Seymour to be involved with the local community by improving the quality of life for others. "It's about making the community a better place to live," said Juanita Joseph, volunteer program manager. Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks, laying the foundation, flooring, framing walls, sheet-rocking walls, roofing and installing windows. "Participants can expect to learn skills as basic as how to swing a hammer to more evolved skills such as cutting rafters," said Travis Rich, Habitat for Humanity of Goldsboro construction manager. Last year, more than 4,000 individuals were impacted in a positive way by the contributions of approximately 1,200 volunteers and other resources, according to the Volunteer Wayne County Web page. "We're really hoping to have a great turnout for the Days of Caring," Travis said, "Seymour Johnson has been indispensable." For those who are unable to attend the mini-blitz, there are several other volunteer opportunities available through Habitat for Humanity and many non-profit organizations participating in the Days of Caring.
