Skateboarders required to wear helmets Published April 4, 2007 By Stewart Cox 4th Mission Support Group deputy commander SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- The recent beautiful weather has gotten more Team Seymour folks outside enjoying sports, including skateboarding at the base's skate park. Unfortunately, some skateboarders are forgetting that wearing a helmet is not only a smart safety precaution, but it is also required. Base leadership is placing extra emphasis on wearing helmets while skateboarding for a very simple reason - they work. Helmets are proven to help prevent injuries to skateboarders. Fourth Security Forces and Services Squadron personnel are conducting random skate park checks. Anyone found skating without a helmet risks having their skateboard confiscated immediately, and the applicable unit commander will be notified of the violation for further action. The bottom line is that if personnel and their dependents choose to skateboard on base, they had better be wearing a helmet.
