SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. -- Families gathered at the Youth Center for a free event focused on honoring military children and families, and the important role they play in ensuring mission success, April 4.

In 1986, former Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberg designated April as the Month of the Military Child for the sacrifices they make in support of the nation's freedoms.

More than 400 children and their families attended this year's event that included an egg hunt, games and pony rides. More than 30 volunteers from the community supported the kickoff and the families in attendance.
