Wind Chill Advisory in effect Published Jan. 6, 2014 By National Weather Service RALEIGH, N.C. -- An unusually cold arctic air mass combined with breezy northwest winds will result in brutally cold wind chill values of 0 to -10 degrees late tonight and Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a wind chill advisory which is in effect from 3 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 7. Wind chill values will rapidly fall into the teens by midnight across the coastal plain and Interstate 95 corridor, bottoming out at 0 to -5 degrees by sunrise Tuesday morning. A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chill readings. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Members who venture outdoors tonight and Tuesday morning should wear several layers of clothing in addition to a hat and gloves.
