Members of Team Seymour participated in the annual Build-a-Boat competition here, Aug. 14, 2013.

Participants were given an hour to build boats made of cardboard and duct tape, then the vessel's captain and first mate paddled across the base pool competing for the overall fastest time.

The competition gave contestants the opportunity to build morale amongst their squadron teams by creating team-specific chants, dressing in costume and cheering on their crewmates as they raced.

"Airmen from different squadrons were brought together to represent the (E-1 through E-4 Airmen's council)," said Sheng Morris, E-1 through E-4 Airmen's council president. "We used teamwork and had fun building our boat and competing in the race. Although our ship sank, we had a great time and will do it again next year."

In the end, the 4th Communications Squadron team was victorious for the second year in a row, with a race-time of 47 seconds.

"Honestly, the thought of trying to be back to champs didn't even cross our minds," said Airman 1st Class Rosa Morales, 4th CS knowledge operations manager." "We figured this would be a great morale boosting event and, primarily, were looking forward to the camaraderie ... and pizza! We still wanted to be competitive, so we did put some thought into the design and construction process. I think we were more pumped up to see how pumped up everyone else was for us!"
