Team Seymour parents attended a NC Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force briefing, May 24, 2016, at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina to learn about the dangers of the internet and how to protect their children.

Some of the threats discussed during the briefings were the progression of technology, apps used by online predators, sexting and cyberbullying.

“Part of the internet crime against children task force is community outreach as well as education,” said Chad Barefoot, Southeastern District North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation special agent. “I’m speak to the parents of the community on the base about internet safety as well as the online dangers that are faced by their children.”

It’s important for parents to know all the dangers their children are facing, said Anthony Sandoval, Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 216 Special Agent. The progression and capability of technology in just the last 30 years is astounding. It’s much easier for online predators to come into contact with their children, and parents need to know how to protect their kids.

During the briefing, Barefoot told the parents to set ground rules for their children’s technology to help prevent them from taking part in the internet hazards.

Sandoval said parents need to be aware of the world their kids are living in and have their own education and knowledge of what their kids are facing day in and day out.
