SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. – Airman 1st Class Jeff Darby calls back to his tent for help while performing self-aid, buddy care on Staff Sgt. Terrance Thomas after simulated small arms fire and rocket propelled grenade attacks on Base X here July 19, 2011. Thomas received three simulated gunshot wounds to his left knee, lower leg and ankle with severe bleeding, exposed bone and tissue damage; Darby needed to stop the bleeding before going back to the tent to get help. Darby, 4th Communications Squadron knowledge operations manager, hails from Melbourne, Fla., and Thomas, 4th CS commercial communications NCOIC, is a native of Houston.
