Run for the Fallen
Theresa Mathis greets her son, U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Duncan Mathis, as he finishes the Run for the Fallen 5K/Half-Marathon hosted by the 4th Fighter Wing Company Grade Officers’ Council, a private organization made up of Air Force lieutenants and captains, at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., Sept. 14, 2013. Mathis was wounded in action during a recent deployment to Afghanistan, falling 75 feet and breaking his legs, ankles and right arm. After three months of rehab and practicing in his wheelchair for weeks, Mathis accomplished his goal by completing the 5K race. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Brittain Crolley)
