The Distinguished Flying Cross was presented to seven F-15E Strike Eagle pilots and weapon systems officers assigned to the 4th Fighter Wing for saving countless Libyan citizens while supporting Operation ODYSSEY DAWN in 2011. The medal was authorized by Congress in 1926 to be awarded to any officer of enlisted man of the U.S. Armed Forces who exhibited heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight, subsequent to Nov. 11, 1918.
