Members of the senior non-commissioned officer tier at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina, had the opportunity to attend a Profession of Arms Center of Excellence seminar entitled “Enhancing Human Capital”, July 27.

Chief Master Sgt. Anthony Fisher, PACE superintendent, led the five-hour seminar to more than 95 Airmen.

The course covered various topics including, phenomenon of entrenched thinking, the attributes and dangers of personal bias, mandate versus organic leadership skills and gave tools that people can use to develop productive, healthy relationships at work and at home.

“It was inspirational,” said Master Sgt. Crystal Aponte, 4th Operations Support Group NCO in-charge of air traffic control training. “I hope everyone gets to be a part of this because I know I’m not going to be able to bring every piece of it back. Not a dull moment, every minute up until the last was worth being there for.”

This seminar focused on reaching Air Force leaders within the SNCO tier and covered different types of learning, the affective leadership approach, active listening, and effective communication in an attempt to provide a better understanding of how professionalism drives individual behavior.

“When we come to a unit we want to leave it better than when we arrived,” said Fisher. “We want the units to understand, first of all, that the Air Force is an organization built on professionalism. One of the things we like to focus a little more attention on is the Airmen that make the Air Force great and not get so focused on the mission, but focus on the people that accomplish the mission.”

Throughout the briefing, Fisher went over scenarios that supervisors and leadership could face every day. The situations were analyzed and discussed as a group to show different points of view and conflict resolution approaches.

“Our main goal is to form and shape an environment that centers on trust, loyalty and commitment,” said Fisher.

Instructors from PACE will be coming to Seymour Johnson AFB for additional seminars for the requested audiences:

  • Sept. 14, 2016 – Field Grade Officers
  • Nov. 2, 2016 – junior enlisted and Company Grade Officers
  • Jan. 11, 2017 – civilians
